Аssessment of the significance of etiquette rules for Сhinese students
Abstract
Th e article presents the results of the empirical research of the priority of the diff erent functions of etiquette in the perception of Chinese students. Th e study involved 332 Chinese students aged from 18 to 25 years, 170 of whom were girls and 162 boys, studying at the universities of China. In the research, we used the questionnaire Features of etiquette by O. I. Danilenko, translated into Chinese. Descriptive statistics and non-parametric methods of comparing samples were used for data analysis. It is revealed that the Chinese students appreciate all of the functions of etiquette, but there are diff erences in the recognition of the signifi cance of diff erent functions. Priority for students are the functions of etiquette that contribute to «saving face» interaction. Women more oft en than men attach importance to the rules of etiquette which help to avoid confl icts between people of diff erent social status and allow them not to think about the form of communication, subject to the existing rules.
