Specifics of international negotiation style by Russian politicians

Abstract

The article deals with psychological aspects of international negotiations by modern Russian political leaders. It presents fi ndings of an empirical study carried out at the Department of Political Psychology of St. Petersburg State University in 2009 - 2010 years. 88 transcripts of negotiations between two Russian Presidents - Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev - and representatives of different foreign countries are analysed by using the method of content analysis. The results of manifestation of specifi c psychological characteristics of Russian negotiating style and tendency to develop transnational features of the style are discussed, the possibility of improving the style of international negotiations is described.
